Bob Caplan is a Senior IT Project Manager and has spent the last 3+ years leading the IT design, definition, and implementation PSE’s Virtual Power Plant.
In his 8+ years at PSE, Bob has led the IT efforts supporting a number of PSE
Strategic initiatives including implementation of advanced analytics supporting the Trade Floor, upgrading the Energy Management System, and a new Corporate VPN. Since 2020, Bob has focused his IT efforts on supporting new renewable programs including Electric Vehicle Pilots for Residential and Multi-Family dwellings and construction of PSE’s first Commercial Charging Station. Bob also led the IT efforts rolling out the Community Solar and Renewable Natural Gas Programs.
Since late 2021, Bob has led the IT effort supporting the Virtual Power Plant leading to a successful Pilot in late 2022. Since then Bob has led the evolution of the VPP technical design and infrastructure allowing for scaling and automation supporting over 90,000 customers and achieving over 70MWs of capacity in under 3 years. As a participant in many of PSEs Renewable Programs, Bob is a strong advocate for utilizing Clean, Renewable energy sources and fully supports PSE’s Decarbonization efforts.
Bob holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography with a focus on Geospatial (formally Geographic) Information Systems from the University of Washington. Bob enjoys spending time with his family, traveling and getting outside for hiking, skiing and motorcycling.
