Description

The term “Industrial Internet of Things” (IIOT) means many things to many people - the marketplace generally agrees that IIOT will bring pervasive measurement from network connected sensors providing a lake of data to be turned into actionable information by applying advanced tools like data analytics, AI, and machine learning.  How does Industrial get added to “IOT”?  With standards based, open interfaces.  With the abstraction of hardware and software.  With enhanced security built in by design.  With interoperability, interchangeability, and portability as key quality attributes.

ExxonMobil started their Open Process Automation Program to address the need to unlock business value. Through a Proof of Concept, a Prototype on a Pilot Unit, and now a Test Bed with Collaboration Partners, ExxonMobil has been demonstrating that the quality attributes of Open Process Automation can deliver benefit and value.  A competitive marketplace inspires and unlocks innovation.  Conformance to industrial standards ensures interoperability.  The ExxonMobil vision for Open Process Automation is: a standards-based, open, secure, and interoperable process control architecture that promotes innovation and value creation.  ExxonMobil will share the vision of Open Process Automation and how it can provide an architecture for IIOT technology and unlocking business value.
