Project managers sometimes fall into the habit of 'reporting' what happened instead of leading the team to make things happen. However, project managers rarely have any legitimate power and must find other ways of influencing people to collaborate, perform, and succeed. In this presentation Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald explains the various forms of traditional and modern power and how project managers should and should not use them. Kevin emphasizes the value of Referent Power for Project Managers and provides specific advice on how to gain and use Referent Power. He then defines traditional and modern forms of leadership, and the settings in which they should and should not be used. Kevin then goes into more detail about transformational leadership, the most appropriate form of leadership for project management.
