Artificial Intelligence is increasingly crucial to an ever-broadening array of disciplines and applications. To address this need, the University of Oklahoma is developing the OneOklahoma Cyberinfrastructure Initiative Artificial Intelligence Consultants (OneOCII-AIC) program, to create a pipeline of AI consultants, both professionals and students, who boost AI expertise and enable access to AI resources for researchers who aspire to use AI or who want to improve their use of AI. An initial cohort of ninety-four research teams from nine Oklahoma institutions have already signed on to receive AI consulting, including from three PhD-granting universities and four masters-granting universities. OneOCII-AIC will ultimately support hundreds of researchers statewide -- undergraduates, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, staff and faculty -- who need high quality AI in their research.
The project's objectives include establishing AI consultants who focus on enabling and improving AI-based research approaches. The AI consultants will also provide AI training statewide and nationally on adoption of AI and use of state and national AI resources. The professional AI consultants will mentor the student AI consultants. Finally, OneOCII-AIC will develop an AI consultant workforce training program, to encourage adoption of the OneOCII-AIC approach nationwide.
