Gerard has helped conceptualize and scaffold thoughtful and effective projects, programs, and partnerships within and between educational institutions, government agencies, private organizations, and community groups for over twenty-five years. Currently, he is the Centers of Excellence for Domestic Maritime Workforce Training and Education Program Manager for the U. S. Maritime Administration’s Office of Maritime Labor and Training.
Before joining MARAD, Gerard was part of the foundational team of a DC based EdTech start-up and had served in several leadership and change capacities in schools in New York and Connecticut. Before his career in education, he worked as a transportation planner for the New York City Planning Department and a regional planner for the Northeast Field Office of the National Park Service.
Gerard has a master’s degree in Curriculum and Teaching from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a master’s degree in Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning from the University of Pennsylvania. He used his pandemic downtime to become certified as an ADA Coordinator and an ICC Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner. His current off the clock efforts are focused on reimagining the landscape possibilities of the backyard of his new home in Alexandria VA.
