Gary Gordon is a Senior Adjunct Professor at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Prior to academia, he had a lengthy career in transportation operations, management, infrastructure and security in both the public and private sectors. Dr. Gordon is retired from the U.S. Army Reserve and was dual qualified as a transportation and engineering officer allowing him to blend his civilian and military experience and expertise. He is a former Assistant Federal Security Director-Surface Transportation responsible for DHS/Transportation Security Administration’s South Central Region where he managed the regulatory process and coordinated security programs and initiatives, which included coordinating with the USCG, FEMA, CBP and other state and local agencies, and transportation stakeholders on matters of transportation security, critical infrastructure protection and emergency management. He holds a Ph.D. and B.S. in Civil Engineering, and MBA from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, and M.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland and is also a graduate of the U.S. Army Command & General Staff College. Dr. Gordon is published and has presented at numerous technical conferences on transportation operations, infrastructure, security and emergency management. He is co-editor of “Intermodal Maritime Security: Supply Chain Risk Mitigation”, co-author of “Railway Security: Protecting Against Manmade and Natural Disasters” and is on the editorial board of the Journal of Transportation Security.
