Craig Moss is a Senior Program Manager at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where he manages and develops defense and homeland security research and development programs. In this role, he interacts with federal, state, and local agencies to understand their operational requirements regarding their homeland security missions. Based on these requirements, he facilitates an analysis of operational gaps, working with ORNL researchers and the agency to identify research and technology opportunities that can be applied to solve these complex national security challenges. He coordinates and oversees the research and development activities at ORNL in support of the agency’s needs. Specific areas of focus are based on the lab’s core, signature capabilities, which include advanced materials, clean energy, neutron science, nuclear sciences, and supercomputing. Areas of domain expertise include state and local operations, emergency response, maritime environments, aviation, defense, and security.
Prior to joining the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in April 2011, he served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army Medical Service Corps. His final assignment in the Army was as the Medical Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Defense Staff Officer at the Army Office of the Surgeon General. Prior to that, his assignments included the US Department of Homeland Security’s Domestic Nuclear Detection Office, the Command Health Physicist at the Pentagon Force Protection Agency; and Chief of Health Physics Operations at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
Craig holds a Master’s degree in radiological health physics from Oregon State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from Austin Peay State University.
Craig and his wife, Kelly live in Lenoir City, Tennessee. They have one daughter, Julianne. Favorite activities include golf, fly fishing, and shooting sports.
