Dr. Young retired as Distinguished Professor of Supply Chain Management from The Pennsylvania State University in 2019 after more than 20 years. He holds a BS in Operations Management from Rider University, an MBA from Albany University and Ph.D. in Business Logistics from the Smeal College at Penn State. Prior to his academic career he had 19 years of corporate experience including various international logistics-related positions with the U.S. subsidiary of Hoechst AG, the erstwhile global chemical giant. He is admitted to practice before the Federal Maritime Commission, a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport of the United Kingdom, was a 2003 Fulbright German Studies Research Scholar in Berlin and Rostock, and served on an advisory panel for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. An active publisher, he is a member of the editorial boards of several key journals and is an affiliate research associate at Penn State's Center for Supply Chain Research where he was the lead principal investigator for a 15-year consortium benchmarking project of import and export practices. The recipient of many distinctions and awards, the most recent is the Distinguished Educator Award from the National Defense Transportation Association. He is co-author of the book Railway Security and co-editor of International Maritime Security: Supply Chain Risk Mitigation recently published by Elsevier.
