Lieutenant Commander Dominic Bucciarelli reported to the Office of Aviation Forces in July 2019, first serving as the Long-Range Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Platform Manager and is currently the Short-Range UAS Platform Manager. He was responsible for the Coast Guard’s Joint Program Office in San Angelo, TX, a partner operation with Customs and Border Protection flying the MQ-9 Predator and is currently working to bring small, immediately deployable UAS to every operational unit within the coming years.
Originally from Hudson, MA, LCDR Bucciarelli entered the United States Merchant Marine Academy in July 2001. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Engineering Systems, and a minor in Aeronautical Engineering in 2005, accepting a direct commission the United States Coast Guard. He was assigned as an Engineer Officer in Training aboard U.S. Coast Guard Cutter MIDGETT (WHEC-726) out of Seattle, WA from 2005-2007. Upon completion of this tour, he was accepted into Naval flight training, earning his wings of gold and designation as a naval aviator in October 2009.
His first operational aviation assignment was Air Station Atlantic City, NJ from 2009 to 2013, serving as an Aircraft Commander for both Search and Rescue and Rotary Wing Air Intercept missions within the National Capitol Region. His follow-on assignment was as an Alaska Patrol pilot in Kodiak, AK from 2013-2015, and a Flight Examiner in Sector Humboldt Bay, CA from 2015-2019.
LCDR Bucciarelli’s personal military decorations include the Coast Guard Commendation Medal with Operational Distinguishing device, Coast Guard Achievement Medal with Operational Distinguishing device (3), and Coast Guard Commandant Letter of Commendation with Operational Distinguishing device.
He earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 2017, and holds current FAA ratings as an Air Transport Pilot, Certified Flight Instructor-Instrument, private pilot, and a Part 107 (UAS).
He lives in Chesapeake Beach, MD with his wife Krystle and children Jacob, Natalia, and Lucas. When not working, LCDR Bucciarelli enjoys sports, competitive BBQ, and mastering the art of exterior illumination during the holidays.
