Travis Edwards is the Public Affairs Officer for the Office of Biometric Identity Management (OBIM). OBIM is the lead entity in the Department of Homeland Security for biometric identity management services across Government and operates the second largest biometric identity system in the world. He is responsible for advising OBIM leadership on public affairs activities, directing strategic communication initiatives, and leading the OBIM Communication Team in support of media relations, industry engagement, and employee communications.
Previously, Mr. Edwards served as a Public Affairs Officer at the Department of the Army’s Fort Belvoir Garrison where he led a Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Communications Team. Additionally, he served as the Community Relations Director of the U.S. Army Garrison at Fort Meade and a Strategic Outreach Officer at U.S. Army Garrison at Fort Lee. He deployed to Iraq in 2007 in support of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers rebuilding efforts as a public affairs officer conducting media relations activities and serving as the managing editor of an engineering news magazine.
Mr. Edwards served in the U.S. Army for 14 years as a public affairs noncommissioned officer deploying twice to support Operational Enduring Freedom in Uzbekistan and Afghanistan. He was stationed at Fort Bragg in the 1st Corps Support Command (Airborne) on active duty from 2000-2004 and served in the U.S. Army Reserves in Richmond, VA with the 80th Training Command until 2014.
Mr. Edwards holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business and Master of Business Administration in Marketing degree from Strayer University and a Master of Arts in Defense and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College. As a part-time adjunct professor, Mr. Edwards enjoys leading students through graduate level communications and undergraduate business courses.
